Focus is a part of commitment. Being committed to too many things is actually not being committed at all. And, if ones not "show up" for others, one will effectively disappear.

Unlike Rudolph, Randolph was a very welcome reindeer from the start. The others always invited him to play. Randolph brought a lot to the games. He was sharp, talented, and funny. Randolph was very popular and had a lot going on. He was always really busy. In fact, maybe he was too busy. He had many different games going and a lot of plates in the air. At times he just was not sure which ones to spin. He seemed to lack focus (or at least didn’t know what was really important.) He could easily be distracted by a new game across town.

Although the reindeer wanted him to be in their reindeer games, they willingly let him disappear and go off with the penguins and polar bears and what not. Randolph had a whole other life (if not lives) going on. The reindeer took what they could get and realized Randolph wasn’t a player for only their team. And that was okay by them. They enjoyed his company when he was around.

Randolph made so many commitments that he had a hard time keeping many commitments. One day, the other reindeer cornered him on this. He got a little huffy, but then agreed to make a commitment to be there on the following Saturday. Like so many other times, as soon as he made the commitment, he got an invitation to do something else—this time it was an invitation to a fabulous black tie and tux penguin party. He immediately got mad at the other reindeer and said that he’d keep the Saturday commitment only because he knew they’d be mad if he didn’t. Once again Randolph was not taking responsibility and choosing his actions. Instead he held his friends accountable for what he was doing and for his choices.

Randolph was also really preoccupied about making the rent for his lavish new barn. This gave him a perfect “out” every time because he would say he couldn’t show up and “play” because he had to work and “make the rent.” This sounded really good and reasonable, and it was, but it also meant that Randolph couldn’t play in the reindeer games. And that was his choice. He also sure had a lot of work to do around that new barn. That was another big commitment.

Randolph had a “clever” habit of waiting for just the “right” time to say something.

Typically he did this because he wanted to break some sort of previous promise or commitment. He was very smart knew how to leverage logic and circumstances to explain why he simply “had” to change his mind.

What’s even worse, when Randolph did show up, he became no fun at all– rushing the other reindeer around and telling them how he had several other places to go and other things to do and other animals to see. He would also complain and whine and moan. The reindeer felt bad and did not want to play. They felt like their games were unimportant to Randolph. Randolph had seemingly better (or at least more pressing) things to do.

Also, for some reason, Randolph did not communicate what was going on in his life or when he would be totally unreachable. A few times the other reindeer called and found out in an “oh by the way” fashion that he would be gone from the North Pole for an extended period. “That’s odd”, they thought. “I guess he really doesn’t care about what we’re up to or letting us know where he is or how to get him.”

The reindeer soon started to talk about Randolph. Donner, the leader of the reindeer, went through some hard times thinking whether he should cut Randolph adrift and exclude him from the reindeer games. After some thought, he decided that no action was really necessary. Randolph was already “taking the actions” and “actions speak louder than words!” He knew that one always gets exactly what one is shooting for. (That’s how Donner knew that his reindeer would always win. Because he was clear and committed to what he was up to.) He saw that Randolph was not clear and truly committed. Randolph often rode the “wave” of circumstance rather than having a mission or goal. Donner knew that if you “don’t show up,” you disappear. It just happens that way.

Soon, the other reindeer couldn’t count on him. They kept inviting him for a while, but after so many no’s, rejections, and let-downs, they just stopped.

Randolph pretty much disappeared completely. The others didn’t even see him in passing. They didn’t see him around town. They never got phone calls. This wasn’t a surprise. They knew they were not a part of his life. Randolph had moved on to other more posh games. They missed him, but they honored Randolph’s choice.

In an amazing turn of events, the Reindeer Games were added to the Winter Olympics which were to be held at the North Pole! Suddenly, Randolph showed up as if everything was the same. For Randolph it pretty much was. He exclaimed his usual routine about being a team player and how much he had done for the games. But now, the other Reindeer were phenomenal game-players– World Class. Randolph was not up to speed. He could not be a part of the team.

To everyone’s surprise, he blamed everybody for ousting him. The truth was: he ousted himself. He made the choice (although it was done so unconsciously that when the wake up call came he accused everyone else of excluding him.) Now he demanded to know how he fit in. And of course the other reindeer didn’t know how because it was he that chose not to fit in. How could they be responsible to choose for Randolph?

So in the end, it wasn’t that the others wouldn’t let Randolph play in any reindeer games, it’s just that Randolph was never around and no longer qualified. Magically, the universe did deliver exactly what he focused on, including that new barn. So, it wasn’t all so bad. We always get what we ask for, and if we aren’t clear in the asking, we end up with confusion, non-clarity, loss and a vague position in the scheme of things. Sometimes we strike out at others and accuse them of betraying or rejecting us when it was our actions that created the situation. We end up thinking ourselves to be the victim of other’s choices, when really it was our (possibly subconscious) choice all along.

Commitment is a powerful tool. It’s especially powerful when refined and focused. Truthfully, one cannot be over-committed for as soon as one starts “committing” to too much, several “commitments” will fall through; so, in fact, one is not committed at all. One cannot “pretend” to be committed or feign commitment. Commitment starts with your word, your pledge, your promise, and it is only “made true” (verified) or manifested by your deeds, your very actions! Choosing everything is not really choosing at all. Choose wisely! Get definite.

  Rene: Another Reindeer

Once the Reindeer games hit the Olympics, Reindeer games became a huge commercial endeavor. Million-oats careers were made. Reindeer games were a national North Pole Pass-time. Leagues became business. Every now and then there was a super-star. Rene (another reindeer) was one smokin’ professional reindeer gamer. Rene, like all of the other reindeer, was under contract to play. The reindeer contracts really didn’t have much legal mumbo-jumbo in them. Pretty much the contract was an agreement, a promise, a declaration of intent to play the games to the best of one’s abilities.

Being the star player that she was, Rene was always being asked to make appearances and do commercials. She even got a movie deal! Soon she was unable to make every appearance she promised to make, including the reindeer games. Living in a bit of denial, she actually thought that it would be possible to go from the movie set, to the games, and then make an appearance at a new theme-park. The other reindeer remembered the days of Randolph, but unlike the days of Randolph when the reindeer were getting together just for fun, they could not just let it be okay for Rene to show up when she wanted to. The stakes in the new games were high, and all Reindeers were held to their word. Once Rene was out of integrity, the other reindeer had to be responsible and communicate this to her. Rather than admitting she made a mistake and asking to make a new agreement, she lashed out. Her first strike claimed that she was by far the best player on the team. She went on to condemn little Rupert who was just a rookie reindeer. Before she was finished she made sure that everybody knew why it wasn’t her fault that she had so much to do. She even told Santa that “kids today” have toys that are far too heavy. Well this story is a lot shorter than Randolph’s story. Do you know why? Yep. They fired her. Oh, they truly wished her the best of luck in Hollywood, but they simply could not play high-stakes reindeer games with a great player that just could not be counted on.

We later tracked down Rene painting her nose red and portraying another more famous Reindeer’s life story in an off, off, off Broadway production that was only showing every third Friday on every second month, maybe. Call ahead to check.

The morals of the story: Be aware. Be responsible to others. Choose wisely. Keep your word. We always get what we create, whether we (think we) want it or not.

Can gratitude get you out of every self inflicted “mess?” Travel plus Christmas (or INSERT HOLIDAY HERE) equals nightmare, right? Certainly it’s been my experience. An experience I seem to always be RIGHT about! Everything will be a crowded, cramped, crabby competition. At the risk of enrolling you into agreeing with me on this nightmare…

Once upon a time: It was the day before I ‘had’ to make the annual trek from Los Angeles to see the in-laws in Boston. I had done it several times before. It’s typically around 14 hours door to door. I knew it would be long. It would be painful. It would be stressful. There would be altercations, accidents, mishaps, stupidity. The airliner would be 90 degrees and stuffy. People would cough and sneeze and squeeze. The luggage would be heavy. Security lines would be long. Need I go on? Being a practitioner of the “Law of Attraction” I knew that I was and would be RIGHT. I knew I was setting myself up literally for “hell on Earth” just as so many of us do during a blessed or supposedly fun and love-filled holiday (at least that’s what the commercials promise.)

My wife had gone out several days ahead. I was on my own. I knew the more I thought about it, the more “trouble” I was in for. As “they” say, you really can’t NOT think about something. (Try NOT to think about Red and Green! What just popped into your head?) Well, I knew I would need to replace my negative thoughts. But how? I would be surrounded, nay, submerged in challenging situations for 14 hours. What to do? Be grateful? Sure. But that’s often way easier said than done especially while one is not sitting and meditating or reflecting but actually “in the trenches!” Am I grateful it only takes 14 hours by plane and not 14 months by stage coach? Yes. Am I glad we fly and arrive safely. Yes. Oddly, those thoughts of gratitude still do not exactly buoy me up while lugging suitcases through an airport filled with anxious holiday travelers. Gratitude is a state of being. Is there anything one can physically do to move into a different state of being? In this case, there was.

I remembered two things:

1) When in the “victim mode,” it’s often impossible to ‘fix’ the feelings because your attention is focused on YOUR problems. So, one must “look outside” and put one’s attention on other people.

2) I know that I always feel great whenever I help another person or give to another person without any strings attached. Unconditional giving….no obligation. That’s why I actually favor Halloween as a “fun” holiday over Christmas. Christmas seems filled with obligations and obligatory giving, yet on Halloween, we hand out candy to total strangers!

My solution: (I’ll bet you think I handed out candy. Close.) Before I went to bed on the eve of my journey, I went to Starbucks. I purchased twenty $5.00 gift cards. I even tied a ribbon around each just to add a personal touch. I would hand these out throughout the day of my travels. I promised that I would not censor or edit my giving: I would not bribe or even reward people. Instead, I would hand cards out spontaneously and/or at random. I would gift the clerks, tellers, handlers, security, etc. I would not withhold a gift-card if someone was seemingly rude or un-helpful. In fact, I would be certain to make sure they received a gift.

Guess what happened? I didn’t even get a chance to hand out a card to anyone that was rude (although the Boston Airport Police did seem a little “stern.”) I have to tell you, everyone was NICE. They did not know I had these magic cards! Of course, I knew it. I didn’t have a chance to focus on “poor me” and my “holiday travel pains” or what was “wrong” with everything. My focus was on giving! Who would get the next card? It was like a Willy Wonka adventure of some sort.

I swear I walked through security and had the nicest security person EVER help me. She literally helped with my stuff! She had a sense of humor. Wow! After I was through and ready to leave, that’s when I gave her the card. She flipped! You may think a “cup of coffee” is no big deal nor any great gift in this world in this day, but give it to someone unsuspecting, without condition, just “because” (actually, just for No cause) and just watch what a bright reaction you will most likely get.

Gratitude is almost always pointed to as the “key” to positive thought and positive attraction. I completely agree. And when it seems difficult to “get in that place” just by thinking, then try doing this. Giving is “gratitude in action!” Every good stage or movie actor will tell you, “It’s in the doing!” To shift into a specific mood, emotion, or state, do SOMETHING!

Tips:

Don’t expect any particular reaction. Just let it flow. Don’t depend or count on being “rewarded” just as you don’t want to hand out the cards as rewards. If this happens, you will slip into “giving to get” or giving with strings attached. The whole operation will go South (far from the North pole!)

Have you turned Christmas shopping into a holiday nightmare? Bring along gift cards while Christmas shopping.

Just for “no cause”: Have you become a little “slumped” in the holidays? Too may “obligations?” Well, add some non-obligatory things to your list immediately: Go to a local hospital, assisted care facility, or even a shopping mall and hand out: store bought cards, hand-made cards, single stem flowers. (I use the roses that are two dozen for ten bucks at the super market. I tie a ribbon to each.) Again, you may think this is silly, or “small” or even cheap. I assure you, they will be received as though they are gold bars. I promise.

You know those Salvation Army Santas? Sometimes I perceive them as annoying. So, I shifted my perspective. In addition to putting some change in the bucket, I give them a card and/or gift certificate and make sure they know that it is for them.

As Nike would declare: “Just do it!” Don’t “think it through!” This is an action of the heart, not the brain. Funny how I am actually a little frightened or embarrassed to begin sharing these gifts each year. My head starts sending tiny pot shots. Some how I think the gifts might either be rejected, or I might somehow be rejected or made silly. Believe me, that “small” feeling is quickly transcended. I assure you that the joy you will feel will be worth a hundred fold the time, money or “scary thoughts” invested. If you have small children, let them do the giving. Smiles will abound and hearts will grow three sizes!

I have made cards that I hand out either by themselves or with gift certificates (coffee, treats, etc.) inside. These cards usually make a special impression because they are both a bit of a surprise, and they celebrate the people receiving them, not just the season! Check ‘em out! You can download the artwork and print them out on your home printer.

Words are our most important, critical tools (and, hence, phrases and sentences.) The more we ‘dull them down’ the less detailed we can fashion and sculpt thought, and, therefore, our world. The more reckless and vague phrases and distinctions, the more dangerous or useless they become. Politicians have mastered dull-speak and useless (if not dangerous) distinctions. Most of the debates in current elections cover topics of no true consequence (other than the continued dulling down, discrimination, and segregation of people.)

Some of you may be familiar with the works of George Orwell and his book “1984.” He created “newspeak” in this prophetic work. Many may argue that his prophesy of enslavement through thought did not come to pass. I would beg to differ. Our society merely ‘looks’ different, but rest assured, an oligarchy of repression and oppression are securely in place, and it is only through clarity and awareness that we can unseat it. We must not fall victim to “Newspeak.”

I URGE YOU TO LEARN ABOUT NEWSPEAK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspeak

We often get ‘bent over’ or ‘worked up’ when we talk about ‘the classes’ (lower, middle, upper.) This limited delineation of the classification of people is way out-of-date. I consider myself part of “the Active Class.” Both ‘middle class’ and/or ‘working class’ carry connotations which I do not want any part of. Also, I aspire to wealth (in all areas of my life.) Ergo, I would not want to use the term ‘upper class’ as it has a derogatory connotation. Appropriately so, as it passes as ‘better than’ judgement on people that have less money.

I propose we abolish using the terms upper, middle, and lower class. (We might also term these as rich, working, and poor classes.) These terms do not serve in a practical way. They do serve as divisive distinctions for propaganda and controlling and/or distracting people from the ‘real’ (useful) issues. This ‘monetary’ distinction between people is actually rather destructive in nature. It portrays money as the root of importance. Hence, the ‘lower classes’ (both middle and poor) deduce that ‘money is the root of all evil.’ They also deduce that power corrupts. All of that ‘thought’ is nonsense. It’s limited. Distinctions based on how something IS in the world rather than how something MOVES or ACTS in the world are basically ‘hearsay’ (rumor) and inadmissible in the ‘court of universal law.’ Actions speak louder than words. Is a ‘good person’ that shoots someone better than a ‘bad person’ that feeds someone? It’s nonsense! ACTION (a reliable reflection of BEING) is key. Let’s start watching the verbs rather than the nouns (names.) (‘talk about a class act!)

The true core of class distinction comes down to ACTION and COMPASSION. Hence, I propose four NEW classes:

THE UPPER ACTIVE CLASS

THE LOWER ACTIVE CLASS

THE LOWER PASSIVE CLASS

THE UPPER PASSIVE CLASS

UPPER ACTIVE CLASS: The class that is rich-in-spirit (upper in consciousness) and actively participates in the world. They move the world (in a practical sense). All live in abundance as they flow with motion. (This class happens to include financially ‘rich’ and financially ‘poor’ people. Money and power are not a distinction here.) They give to others. They receive from others. They share their wealth whether that be wealth of spirit, mind, money, power, work, property, product, etc. They are in action WITH compassion. They take care of themselves and others. They are the movers and shakers, both big and small. They are the life-blood of this world.

LOWER ACTIVE CLASS: The only distinction here is that this active class does not have compassion. (Lower in consciousness.) They are selfish. They actually live in a ‘lack mentality’ and are poor of spirit. They participate in the world, but at others’ expense and detriment. They do this under the false belief that there is not enough to go around, and it’s better to ‘do unto others before they do unto you.’ They are the ‘bad blood’ in the world.

LOWER PASSIVE CLASS (dead weight). The ‘stuck’ class. Low in consciousness–most likely nearly unconscious. The class that is all poor-in-spirit. This includes financially ‘rich’ people and financially ‘poor’ people. The financially well-off people in this class live in fear and greed. They hoard money, power, property, services, and products through fear of lack. The financially ‘poor’ people in this group are consummate victims. They are at the whim of the movers in the world. They do nothing to change their lot in life nor the lot of others. They are not evolving. This whole class (whether with or without money, mansions, food, shelter) is a drain and burden to the planet and its inhabitants. They do not treat the Earth, the people, the plants, the animals or even possessions with any respect, gratitude, or reverence. They truly are the energy and resource vampires of this world. They are the ‘blood suckers’ in the world.

UPPER PASSIVE CLASS. (Ultimate consciousness?) I almost hesitate to include this, but by deduction, it must exist (even now). This rare class consists of the real ‘holy people’ –the gurus at the mountain top. Perhaps they serve an unseen ‘active’ participation in the world in that they ‘hold the balance’ mindfully, spiritually, and ‘thoughtfully’ for the poor-in-spirit. At minimum, they are role models for people to aspire to, so they do create movement. Perhaps their ‘being’ is so enlightened that their presence itself is movement in the world. (Certainly they cause action and movement.) My suspicion is that few of them ever truly just sit atop the mountain. (Hence this passive class does not remain in existence….it sort of evaporates in a puff of light into Nirvana.) At minimum, these people actively educate others. (Christ was a teacher.) At maximum, they give their every last action to and for others. (Mother Teresa lived with, fed, clothed, nursed, and comforted the poor on the streets of Calcutta.) These people are the heart of the world.

What is your class?

Robbie stubbed his toe on the object. “Dammit!” He examined his bare foot. No blood. “Got to trim those nails,” he thought as he dug the offending object from the sand. It was a magic lamp. >>FAST FORWARD>> You already know this tale. Once Robbie uttered his wish, the diabolical Genie contorted his brow, and Robbie was surrounded by a million antlered male animals. Bucks. He was trampled as the Genie laughed and snacked on a churro.

Okay. You certainly know some variation of this tale. And it always ends up badly. Of course, those like Robbie and Aladdin usually do learn ‘their lesson.’ So it isn’t so bad… No wonder we’re all leery of wishes! Do they really come true? And if so, will we be punished by them!?

We are aware that we attract everything to us, for better or worse, joy or pain, richer or poorer, you know the rest. We create our experience and manifest everything around us through our feelings and thoughts. The knowledge of this can be used powerfully. We have the opportunity to consciously adjust our thoughts and feelings so that we can become deliberate, intentional creators.

We cannot help but create. We are creators.(1) Pain and “trouble” typically occur when we do not create consciously. Just as the Genie exclaimed, “your wish is my command,” the Universe is always fulfilling our wishes, no matter what they are. If we are not deliberate and intentional with our thoughts and feelings, our ‘wishes’ are, at minimum, vague or contradictory. At maximum (worst case) they are detrimental.

“Asleep at the Wheel.” Have you ever really thought about the profound ‘truth’ this depicts? Whether awake or asleep, the car is in motion. A powerful force (machine) is engaged and moving forward. If one is unconscious, that force will still be applied. But to what? Who knows? Most likely, it will not be used to get one to the desired destination. The results are definitely unpredictable and probably disastrous.

The powerful Law of Attraction is always in motion. Very often chaotic results happen from our unclear or not well-thought-out wishes (or prayers). So the ‘victims’of wishes-gone-bad learned and then cautioned to others:

“Be careful of what you wish for!”

The truth is, we are always wishing. Every thought and emotion puts out an energetic wish. The above phrase warns with a caution: “Be careful…” Indeed, many of the tales involving wishes end with tragic results as the wisher finds that he was not very clear about what he wished for and hence, suffered the consequences. Of course, the results (or story) had a ‘sunny side in that its purpose was to teach the wisher something important– probably to get really clear about what he or she wanted or what was truly important. Hence, the wisher learned a valuable lesson.

What if the wisher started out with full awareness and then made a more specific, deliberate wish? And what if the wisher entered into the wish without fear? By declaring “Be careful of what you wish for” one invokes caution. Caution is literally rooted (from Latin and by definition) in fear. It’s about being “on guard” and defending from harm. So, this very phrase “Be careful for what you wish for,” creates (self inflicts) a negative vibe into whatever it is you wish for. And, since we are always wishing…well…you can see where this might lead. This very self-defeating construct is found throughout many of our everyday words, phrases and language. Our initial lesson in overcoming this “curse” is to become AWARE of the denotations (meanings) and the emotional connotations of the very tools (words) that we invoke creation with. Our words are the tools we use to begin the sculpting of ‘the abstract’ into something concrete. They are used to guide energy into form. The better (more specific and less abstract) the tool, the better (more reliable and quickly achieved) the result. The denotations of words are very important because we want to be clear on just what the tool can produce. Our words are imbued both with connotation and denotation. In a sense, they have magical powers. They embody wisdom and give rise to creation.

Connotation is very important as it ‘sets-off’ one’s emotional state around the word. Obviously, we want to use words that empower us (towards positive emotion). Often, the connotation is skewed because we are not clear on the denotation (correct meaning) of the word. Ages of wisdom are embedded in words and phrases. We can use this to our advantage just by becoming clear about the word itself. Using words and phrases without being accurate on their definitions is commonplace and often a huge cause in problematic wishes. If you haphazardly use words or you have vague, inaccurate or outright incorrect understandings of the words, you’re going to end-up with similarly wrong results.

Perhaps the usage is just ‘off’ by a ‘smidge.’ Like a gun (or a magic wand), if one is off by the slightest angle at the source, the target can be missed by a great length resulting in completely different (if not devastating) effects. Here’s our first adjustment, which, indeed, is the very foundation of this practical and magical lesson:

“Be AWAREFUL of what you wish for!”

Now that is magic! We cannot help but create. The universe is always taking care of the wish. Your mission, therefore, is to become more and more aware. This is the great adventure before us. It’s not the job before us for who wants or likes to do any job? This is our great privilege. We GET to do this! This is the celebration of continuing awareness that we now embark on. We all want to learn, we just don’t want to “be taught.” In the spirit of child-like curiosity and amazement, we will re-learn our vocabulary, and re-relearn how to ‘spell’so that we may have a life filled with magic.

Examples of troublesome wishes:

a) I’m tired of being broke.

b) I just want to be rich.

c) I want a good man.

d) I want a ranch style house in Manhattan.

e) I wish people would stop bothering me. Or: I wish people would leave me alone.

Aside from the last few on the list, they’re all vague and, therefore, it’s hard to predict what will happen. (This commonly leads people to believe that their wishes are not being fulfilled or prayers answered because the desire is so unspecific that one will easily miss the vague or confusing results when they actually do show up. Or, the results are actually just a continuation of the status-quo—the wish is constantly being granted and there is no change. Take (a) for example:

a) “I’m tired of being broke.”—You have just declared that you are tired and broke. Wish granted! This wish invariably will be answered as keeping you tired and broke. You will have no idea it’s actually being fulfilled by the universe because it’s ‘more of the same’ of what you already have. You will experience the state of ‘tired.’ You’ll also find yourself struggling financially. Also, since ‘broke’ is somewhat vague, you could end up in various stages of non-function (broke): emotionally, physically, and financially. Without question, your (effective) use of the law of attraction is broken. You are not just short on funds, you are actually short-on-funds because your view of income, outgo, and abundance is truly ‘broken.’

b) “I just want to be rich.” — There’s two issues here:

i. Firstly, what does rich mean? It’s an abstract concept to most people. What does it specifically mean for you? A million in the bank? A personal masseuse? Be clear.

ii. Secondly, it invokes a ‘state of want.’ This will be covered more in-depth later. Let’s just see if you can ‘grab’ this. If your wish is “I want to be rich” the universe will answer you by delivering the state of “wanting to be rich.” Therefore, the answer is: you’re poor.

c) “I want a good man.”– What is a good man? Be specific.

d) “I want a ranch style house in Manhattan.”–Often people offer up contradictory wishes so the universe has no choice but to deliver up contradictory results or no results.

e) “I wish people would stop bothering me.”– “Bother “ is a frame-of-mind and your impression or reaction; therefore, you’re probably going to remain bothered in general. ‘Trouble is, you will probably be bothered because you have no opportunities and no results. And that’s because your wish to have people stop contacting, calling, interrupting, inviting you has been granted. BE AWAREFUL of what you wish for!!!

So, what about an ‘awareful’, intentional, deliberate wish:

a) I have a two week vacation with my spouse on Maui in a luxury hotel, the Kealani, paid for by my current employer.
i) They are all in the PRESENT tense.
ii) They do no state a ‘want.’ They simply make a declaration of ‘what is so.’

iii) They are specific. Putting a time frame can also make it more believable to you. This is okay so long as it’s a definite time. (It’s not just ‘in the future’ because the results will never be apparent — they will always reside ‘in the future.’ Remember the phrase “Someday is the day that’s never coming.”

Be as specific as possible. Add ‘experiential’ detail. Example (a) is already very elaborate. Let’s elaborate on (b):

b) I go to the bank every month and deposit a check worth over $100,000. I love to count the zeroes! The check reads “Please pay to the order of” my name! The bank line is short. It’s a little chilly, but the teller is very friendly. At the end of the year, the gross income on my tax return reads 1,356,753.48. My tax due is 356,000. Leaving me over a million dollars in pure profit.

Using visceral descriptions that include sights, sounds, smells, and feelings will add to the power of the wish. The objective (literally) is to make the wish as real as possible, and, indeed, it will be made real. In addition to using words, you may choose to include actual pictures (from magazines, books, newspapers, real-estate listings, etc.) This adds that much more power, intention, and focus to your creation. (3)

Are you afraid to make more and more specific wishes? Are you paralyzed to make such detailed, elaborate, lavish demands? Then you are in a state of ‘being careful of what you wish for.’ Often, this happens because we know that if we are very specific, we will clearly know if the wish is not granted. We are afraid to ‘test’ or ‘tempt’ the universe. We are afraid to find out that the truth might be that our wishes and prayers don’t come true. Guess what? If you buy into this worry, they will not. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. It becomes the dreaded, diabolical wish. Know that there is no test at hand. This is the law. There is no worry in a deliberate, intentional wish. Your word is the creative force of the universe, and the Law of Attraction is already granting your wish. You’re just going to have to trust and ‘let it go.’ KNOW it is so. AMEN!(2)

Go forth and be ‘awareful’ of what you wish for. I wish you joy, clarity, detail, awareness, and intention in your deliberate creation.

(1) Many religious doctrines teach that we are “Made in the image of God.” Many people look at this ‘backwards’ and anthropomorphize God –give God the limited qualities of humans or the physical appearance of a person. The truth is we are made in the nature and ability of God. We are co-creators.

(2)“Amen” comes from the Hebrew: “truth,” used adverbially as an expression of agreement. –surely, – from root a-m-n “to be trustworthy, confirm, support.” So Amen is just a big exclamation on the declaration. “It is so!” “Your wish is a commandment that is already done.”

(3) For powerful tools on visualization and clarity, please visit http://manifestthesecret.com There you will find the answers to some wishes: A free e-book on “Treasure Mapping” (AKA vision boards) that will help you organize and create amazing, effective visual treasure maps for your dreams and desires.
Don’t be careful!

(A word of Caution)

The bright red and yellow lights dimmed. The sound of crunching popcorn gave way to a roar of applause. The Amazing Karloff arrived on stage, armed with sharp knives and a blindfold. His costume sparkled like the twinkle in his eye. That twinkle disappeared behind a black cloth as he donned his mask. His beautiful assistant was tied to a wheel fifty feet away. He raised a knife in the air. The wheel spun. The crowd gasped. They were racked with anxiety. Karloff, however, was not. He knew he would hit his target. There was no doubt. And luckily, that night nobody yelled out the bothersome, “be careful!” There was no need for caution. He felt the handle. He heard the wheel. He knew where his assistant was positioned. He was aware of everything in play. His mind’s eye already saw the knife safely planted at his assistant’s side. It was already done. That’s when he released the knife.

We hear it all of the time: “Be careful!” We all know that we attract our experiences to us. And, if you know even a little about the Law of Attraction, you know that the universe works on whatever one sets their attention on. The universe ‘ignores’ no and not. So first, let’s adjust our title. Let’s get rid of the “don’t.” Here’s our solution to both the title and the dilemma of “being careful:”

Be ‘Awareful!’

We’re not advocating reckless abandon, walking into danger, nor becoming ‘asleep at the wheel.’ To the contrary, we are advocating being alert, awake, and aware. Knowing what is at hand. Being present to what might show up. Here’s the thing with “being careful”: When one cautions you to “be careful” or when you say to yourself “be careful,” you are not only acknowledging that there is a danger, but that you want to make sure you do not tangle with it. Guess what? Danger, harm, trouble or pain are then within your sphere of attention. And since the universe does not acknowledge NOT, you’ve invited the possibility of trouble into your experience. Part of your attention is deflected from whatever the actual goal or desire is (like getting to the other side of the street, planting a knife NEXT to your circus assistant, or effortlessly hang-gliding over a thousand foot gorge.) Anytime full attention and focus is not given to the goal, there’s an ‘energy leak’ that provides a hole wherein the goal may not be accomplished (destination not reached, desire not fulfilled.) Any pro athlete will tell you they don’t focus on carefully hitting the ball. They envision it soaring over the fence or driving hard down the center field.

When one declares “be careful”, one is invoking caution.

DEFINITIONs:

Careful

  - Making sure to avoid potential mishap, danger, harm, trouble, pain, or loss.

Caution

  - Care to avoid mistakes, mishaps, or danger; warning.

Warning

  - indication of impending or possible danger.

Caution comes from the Latin cautio -from cavere - to be on one’s guard.

If you’re ‘on guard’ then you must be defending against a danger or harm. Caution indicates a warning against danger or mishap. Caution is rooted in and invokes fear. Therefore, ironically, being cautious and careful self-inflicts harmful thoughts. At minimum, it pulls energy away from the desired objective (whether it be fun, accomplishing a feat, or finishing a task). At maximum, it allows danger or mishap a foothold in the door.

When a mother yells out, “be careful,” typically they are worrying about all the harm that can befall a child. Indeed, many of us have heard the dreadful stories on the evening news where the mother reports how she was “always worried about that street” and she repeatedly told her kids “to be careful.”

This ‘poison’ that pollutes our awareness and experience has an easy antidote. And it’s one we highly recommend practicing. Rather than being careful, be “Awareful!” Wake up! Get present! Know where you are and the direction you head. Act with intention. Affirm others’ awareness and wake them up to the present moment.

The next time a loved one is about to embark on a trip or your child is about to cross the street, wish them: “Be ‘awareful’!”(1)

(1) ‘Awareful’ is not a recognized word in the English language. Let’s just call it a reminder phrase. A contraction of the phrase “be awake and present”.
